The risk of using baby pillows for infants

So many times, we get asked for baby pillows and our answer is that we do not stock them because they are not safe.
Dear mother/father of a newborn baby, do not use a pillow for your newborn baby, no matter who advises you to or why you want to. You expose your baby to the risk of SID (sudden infant death) by putting them on a pillow.
Each year in the United States, there are about 3,500 Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUID). These deaths occur among infants less than 1 year old. A lot of sudden infant deaths are linked to sleep. We might not have the statistics for Nigeria but it is better to be safe.
Very young babies can suffocate if they have a pillow in their cot. As their neck muscles are weak, a small baby can easily get trapped within or underneath a pillow, leading to suffocation. Baby's head must never be covered or be at risk from accidental covering during sleep.
A Nigerian parent would probably say, God is watching over us, we can't be careful about everything. Agreed. Would you not rather do what is ultimately in your power to keep your own child or any child under your care safe?
When your baby is older than one or reasonable enough to know to uncover their own heads when entangled, you can start to use pillows and other type of things on their beds.
Let's keep our children safe dear parents.
